March 31st Haiti Update:

Dear Friends,

My most recent trip to Haiti, which concluded on 3/15, was to support our colleagues and friends from The Psycho-Trauma Center co-initiated by URAMEL and IDEO in February, 2010 with further training. A 3-day Introduction to Creative Arts Therapies was provided to the psychologists, psychiatrists, doctors, nurses, social workers, and counselors who work with The Psycho Trauma Center, and they loved it! And, have asked for more.

Now that the earthquake emergency phase is over, TRI has two projects it is fundraising for. We have been asked to be the primary provider of technical assistance and program development/implementation for The Psycho Trauma Center's countrywide, community-based mental health program. We are collaborating with Columbia University and New York Universities "Project Hope" to develop and implement this program, which will consist of extensive collaboration with local community and spiritual leaders throughout Haiti to develop locally informed prevention, capacity building and post-disaster counseling programs. This program is called "Project Hope in Haiti".

We have also been asked to provide ongoing training in Somatic, Contemplative and Creative Arts-Based Therapies to all the providers who work at The Psycho Trauma Center. We estimate this project will take 1-2 years, and consist of a series of 3-4 trainings/year, with supervision provided remotely and in conjunction with training visits. This project is called "Ke Ansam ("Hearts Together").

Your donation will support these innovative, community-based, exciting training and capacity building initiatives. 100 percent of donations go to training, supplies and logistical support for local community and spiritual leaders, lay counselors, first responders, health professionals and trained psychologists, who will be trained, empowered and supported to work collaboratively throughout Haiti as the leaders of a truly Haiti-centric mental health program.

Checks must be made out to TRAUMA RESOURCES INTERNATIONAL and can be mailed to: TRI/Amber Gray 118 Temblon St Santa Fe, NM 87501

Donate online by visiting our donation page.

You can specify which program you wish to support by writing the name of the program as a memo on the check, or as a message in an online donation.

Thank You, and Blessings for 2011.
